How to Fix the 'Not Secure' Warning on Your Website

Updated June 2026 · 4 min read · Troubleshooting

Seeing "Not Secure" next to your website's address in the browser is alarming to visitors, but the fix is usually straightforward.

What causes the warning

This warning appears when your site doesn't have a valid SSL certificate installed, or when it's not being applied correctly across all pages.

Step 1: Check if SSL is active

Log in to your hosting dashboard and check whether an SSL certificate is installed and active for your domain. Many hosts, including Hostinger, include this automatically and free.

Step 2: Force HTTPS site-wide

Sometimes SSL is installed but the site still loads some pages over the unencrypted HTTP version. Make sure your site is configured to redirect all traffic to HTTPS.

Step 3: Fix mixed content

If some elements on your page (like old image links) are still pulling from "http://" instead of "https://", browsers may still flag the page. Update any hardcoded HTTP links to HTTPS.

Step 4: Clear your browser cache

Occasionally, the warning persists in your own browser due to caching even after the certificate is correctly installed.
